A state with 415 school districts, Montana has almost 240,000 students enrolled in pre-K to postsecondary education (144,000 students in K-12). More than 11 percent of the public elementary and secondary school students are American Indian, which is among the highest rates in the nation.

REL Northwest is leading the Montana Data Use Alliance, which is a partnership with the Office of Public Instruction and school districts throughout the state. The alliance is focused on better use of state and local data to evaluate dropout prevention efforts and improve high school graduation rates.

“The true value of a REL service [such as Ask A REL’s Reference Desk] is that as unforeseen issues arise, help is readily available.”—Dan Kimzey, Principal, Hamilton Middle School, Hamilton, MT
