Transforming teaching and learning in the Northwest and beyond

Founded in 1966 as Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory, Education Northwest is a Portland, Oregon-based nonprofit that works to strengthen schools and communities in the Pacific Northwest and across the nation. We partner with states, districts, schools, community-based organizations, and foundations on research, evaluation, professional development, and technical assistance activities. Through nearly 200 projects, we provide a wide range of services, from evaluating literacy programs, to honing teachers’ writing instruction, to helping school improvement coaches become more effective.

Our regional and national work is carried out largely through REL Northwest and three other federally sponsored programs:
Northwest Comprehensive Center—one of 15 regional centers that deliver tailored, capacity-building assistance to state education agencies
Region X Equity Assistance Center—part of a nationwide network promoting educational equity and access through technical assistance and dissemination of resources
Corporation for National and Community Service—providing online and face-to-face training, meeting technical assistance needs, and facilitating communities of practice
