About REL Northwest

Teacher reading to students

REL Northwest is one of 10 Regional Educational Laboratories (RELs) funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences. Operated by Education Northwest for half a century, REL Northwest serves the states of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington.

Our mission is to help improve student outcomes by building policymakers’ and practitioners’ capacity to use data and research evidence to address important educational problems.

The core of our work is carried out through partnerships or research alliances with state and local education stakeholders. Through these alliances and other activities, REL Northwest works side-by-side with stakeholders to conduct rigorous research and technical assistance projects and to share actionable findings that focus on the region’s priority needs.
